Nau mai harae mai, Creativity - Culture - Connection Free Dance Classes & discussions at Grey Lynn Park (Near the pump track), Auckland every Saturday 15th Jan- 5th Feb. Our 4th and final hui in the movement series is with guest teacher Chanwyn sharing an African contemporary dance class.

About the Event
Each session will have a similar flow structure of opening circle, dance class, collective discussion, closing circle.
Open to all, 1 meter distancing in place (Maximum of 25 people per class due to restrictions).

Chanwyn Southgate was born in Cape Town, South Africa with European and St Helena heritage, raised in West Auckland, she began her dance journey of self-discovery. She spent two years at Pointy Dog Dance Company and worked under Choreographers Jessie McCall, Felicity Molloy and Gabrielle Thomas. She graduated from The University of Auckland in 2016 with a Degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Dance Studies. During her time there she found her passion for Dance Education and Choreography. Chanwyn presented her Postgraduate research which explored Dance Archives and was awarded second place at The University of Auckland Variety Showcase, Exposure. She travelled to Singapore and performed in the World Dance Alliance Asia-Pacific Symposium in 2015 and Los Angeles as part of the World Class Dance Tours in 2016. Since graduating from UoA she’s currently entering her 3rd year as a Secondary Dance Teacher. Chanwyn is extremely passionate about utilizing choreographic processes and choreography to inspire the next generation of movers. She believes that dance has the ability to bridge gaps, create conversations and heal open wounds through movement.
